John A. Rose, CSP, ARM, ALCM, Senior Vice President, Director Risk Management Services
John is Senior Vice President and Director of Risk Management Services for RC Knox & Company. He graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.

John started his safety engineering career with Aetna Casualty and Surety in 1972. For the next seventeen years, John held various positions in the Engineering Department. In 1982, he was assigned a position in Aetna's home office in national accounts. After only four years, John accepted his next position as Manager of the Loss Control Department for the Hartford Branch Office.

He joined RC Knox & Company 1989 and was instrumental in developing the current Risk Management Services Division. His present responsibilities include the coordination and development of managed care networks, assisting clients in implementing effective return-to-work programs, developing and presenting seminars and directing risk management services which includes claims management handling, loss control management, and audit functions. John has also written numerous articles on various risk management subjects and has participated in seminars on a national scale.

John is presently a professional member in the American Society of Safety Engineers, former president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Hartford, and is active in various other professional organizations.

In 1980, John obtained a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. In 1992, he received the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation. In 1995, he obtained the Associate in Loss Control Management (ALCM) designation.

John's thirty-one years of insurance experience includes having gained expertise in safety and loss prevention services, claims management handling, human resources, insurance operations, and premium audit functions. In addition, John has also specialized in developing risk management programs, as well as having created a business operation dedicated to serving clients having national/ regional facilities with complex risk management needs. John has earned a reputation for developing and coordinating service needs for clients interested in reducing loss exposures and in saving claim dollars.

His recreational interests include auto-cross and white water rafting.

Scott A. Anderson, CPCU, AIC, ARM, CIC, Vice President, Manager of Claims Administration
Scott began his insurance career in 1979 as a Property and Casualty claim adjuster for Safeco Insurance Company. He joined the Claim Department of The Aetna Casualty and Surety Company in 1983. As a commercial claim supervisor, Scott was the fraud investigation coordinator for Connecticut and was responsible for subrogation and salvage recovery at Aetna's Hartford claim office. He has managed and been a member of Aetna and Safeco catastrophe claim teams across the country. He has a multi-line claim background that includes Workers' Compensation, Property, General Liability, Auto, Inland Marine, Ocean Marine, Business Interruption and Crime losses, as well as Fidelity and Surety Bond loss adjustments.

Scott has conducted seminars on Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Property, Contractual Risk Transfer and has written numerous articles on Workers' Compensation issues such as Return-to-Work programs, Managed Care, Understanding Liability and Claim Reserving. He has also conducted seminars on property losses, coinsurance, subrogation and fraud investigation. He is currently a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators.

While at the Aetna, Scott was involved in Aetna's Middletown Office construction OCIP project. This experience was used on our OCIP projects involving The Connecticut Children's Medical Center, The St. Francis Hospitals, The Veterans Memorial Hospital and The Learning Corridor.

Scott joined RC Knox & Company in 1988 as Manager of Claim Administration. As a part of our Risk Management Services Division, he is currently responsible for coordinating and managing all claim services for our clients. Scott is a licensed casualty claim adjuster and a licensed property-casualty consultant.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Central Connecticut State University. He has achieved the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, the Associates in Claims (AIC) designation, the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation, and is a Certified Insurance Consultant. He is currently working toward the CLU designation.

Richard L. Poirier, CDMS, CRC, HIA, Manager, Loss Control Administration
Rick is Manager of Loss Control Administration for RC Knox & Company with a total of 18 years of experience. While on the insurance carrier side, he provided on-site exposure/hazard analysis, safety program development, employee training and management support. His ability to assess clients' needs and establish a service plan provides the client and insurer with a clear strategy for loss reduction. He has also held other positions, such as, the Director, Risk Management for a Massachusetts agency and Assistant Director, Commercial Lines with the Travelers, where he led the development and delivery of worksite-based injury management programs.

Rick's role is to coordinate and manage loss control services for RC Knox and Beardsley, Brown & Bassett clients. However, his B.A. and M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling certainly can be used in other risk management applications. This degree of experience increases our capability to provide Risk Management Services in creative and efficient ways, focused on the pre and post injury needs of our clients.

Rick joined RC Knox in 2001 with a specialty in workers' compensation, and he is directly involved in evaluating and coordinating customers' managed care network options, Return-to-Work programming, and insurance company services.

By taking a problem-solving approach, Rick has been successful in educating clients in various areas of risk management and providing tools and skills to reduce the total cost of loss.

Rick has obtained the Certified Disability Management Specialist, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and Health Insurance Associate designation and is pursuing the Associate in Risk Management (ARM). He co-authored "Reducing Employee Back Injuries in Skilled Nursing Facilities" in 1993.

Personal interests include golf, running, tennis, and a particular commitment to volunteerism.

James A. D'Errico, APA, CIC, Assistant Vice President, Manager Audit Administration
Jim has a degree in Business Administration and attended the University of Connecticut School of Insurance. Jim is a State Certified Insurance Consultant and a Property Casualty Agent, and is a charter member of the Insurance Auditors Association of Connecticut and the Southern New England Auditors Association. He is also a member of the Northeast Regional Auditors Association and the National Association of Premium Auditors, recently receiving a Certificate of Achievement for continuing professional development in the field of premium auditing. Jim has recently been awarded an Associate in Premium Auditing designation, and is presently working towards his CPCU designation. He is also a member of the Connecticut Classification and Rating Appeals Board, and is a Technical Advisor for the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Connecticut.

Prior to joining RC Knox & Company, Inc. in 1992 as the Manager of Audit Administration, he was a Senior Consultant for RC Knox & Company, Inc. working with clients and staff on audit-related issues. He has been in the insurance industry for thirty-six years working for Aetna Life and Casualty, Allstate Insurance Company, Security Insurance Company and Travelers Insurance Company, and was the owner of an independent auditing firm providing auditing services to over fifteen insurance companies.

Current duties include all audit-related issues that may impact our agency and our clients, premium audit reviews, consulting arrangements, and experience modification analysis projections, along with special projects as requested by management.

To date, Jim has saved our clients in excess of $13,000,000 in premium overcharges.

Susan M. Teich, AIC, Senior Claim Consultant
Susan obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, at Amherst. She has worked in the insurance industry as a licensed adjuster since 1982, and has had extensive experience in handling insurance claims for a broad range of commercial and personal accounts including workers' compensation, general liability (malpractice, product liability, etc.), property-casualty, and auto. Susan also holds her Massachusetts producer license.

Prior to working for RC Knox & Company, Susan was employed with The Hartford Insurance Group as both a Claim Consultant and as a Senior Claim Representative handling all lines of business in both Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Current duties include analyzing and evaluating clients' workers' compensation claims, auto liability claims and general liability claims throughout the country and to develop, whenever possible, opportunities to reduce clients' reserves and to support agency efforts for clients in other designated lines of business.

Tracey A. Miller, Claim Consultant
Tracey began her insurance career in September 1983 with EBI Companies, a division of Orion Group, in the Workers' Compensation Department. At EBI, Tracey took many in-house workers' compensation courses where she obtained certificates for successfully completing the courses.

From EBI, Tracey went to Cigna Property & Casualty in 1986, at the time when the newly implemented New England Workers' Compensation was formed. At Cigna, Tracey obtained her Casualty Adjusters License in 1991 and went on to attend many workers' compensation seminars and hearings. She also completed some in-house courses and attended Workers' Compensation seminars, and worked her way up to Senior Claim Representative. She was also one of the "trainers" for new hires and trained them on the computer as well as the Workers' Compensation Law. Tracey handled multiple jurisdictions as well as national Specialty Risk Accounts. Tracey served on the committee to establish, implement, and train employees on the new Managed Care program and utilization review. Tracey was also Acting Supervisor on numerous occasions when needed by her supervisor.

In 1998, Tracey returned to EBI Companies as Senior Claim Representative. Tracey broadened her career by attending and handling her own hearings on her cases, as well as co-workers cases before the commissioners. Tracey became very visible at the Workers' Compensation offices. Tracey also attended account visits, claim reviews, and renewal meetings, as well as surveys on prospective accounts where she presented the "claims" package. Tracey also attended presentations in order to continue growing in her field.

In March 2000, Tracey joined RC Knox & Company in the Risk Management Services Division as a Claim Consultant. Current duties include reviewing and evaluating clients' claims, workers' compensation, auto liability, and general liability with an eye toward reducing reserves. Tracey works with claim representatives from many different insurance companies, monitoring the claims, discussing reserves and obtaining plans of action for resolution of the claims.

Tracey also does WC 101 training for the clients and has done a two-day presentation at one of her clients.

Joanne L. Swinsick, WCLA, Claim Consultant
Joanne has been employed with RC Knox since March, 1999. She has worked for the insurance industry since 1972 in various positions, including workers' compensation claim handling for the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. Her experience also involved handling of self-insured accounts, national accounts and hospitals. She holds a casualty adjuster's license and has completed numerous courses to include, Workers' Compensation Claims Law (which afforded a designation in WCLA), Casualty Clam, Subrogation, Managed Care, Medical Interpretation, Negotiation Techniques, and Personal Lines Automobile. Joanne's experience also included representing carriers at informal hearings in Connecticut.

Prior to working for RC Knox & Company, Joanne was employed with Travelers/Aetna as a Unit Manager and as a Claims Representative for a combined period of 10 years handling Workers' Compensation. As a Unit Manager, she was responsible for developing performance reviews for on-staff managed Care nurses, acted as liaison for the claim department at monthly underwriting meetings, attended marketing/claim account meetings and presentations. Joanne also prepared for and participated as a witness in Berlin Steel vs. Aetna trial with positive results.

Prior to this, she worked for various other insurance companies such as Connecticut Hospital Association, American States Insurance and Cigna.

Her current duties as a Claim Consultant include the analysis of losses, monitoring of reserves, education of clients, assisting clients in resolving questions and concerns, and monitoring the activities of insurance companies.
